The congregation of Chaguanas began in 1890 in Usine, St Madeline at the same time as the work in Port of Spain. It then moved to Chaguanas after the closing of the sugar estate there. The church is located in a predominately Hindu area with none of its members living in the vicinity of the church.
In the 1990’s the Edinburgh Five Hundred Housing scheme came into effect in Chaguanas. Bishop, Dr. Conrad Spencer visited the Conference, made an assessment of the area and developed a strategic plan with the aim of relocating the church into the new area. Regrettably the scheme was adamant that the area was for housing only and religious institutions would not be allowed to occupy the area.
