Rev. Cicely Athill-Horsford celebrates 25 years of ordained ministry as the first women in the Moravian Church in the Caribbean to be ordained to fulltime pastoral ministry.
A service of thanksgiving was held at the Mount Tabor Moravian Church in Barbados, where Rev. Athill-Horsford currently serves as pastor.
Greetings were extended by the PEC and the Conferences in which she served.
THE MORAVIAN CHURCH EWI PROVINCE
Greetings on the 25th Anniversary of the Ordination of The Rev. Dr. Cicely T.V. Athill-Horsford
It is indeed significant that the Rev. Dr. Cicely Athill-Horsford, the first female to be ordained in the Moravian Church in the E.W.I, is celebrating her own Silver Anniversary as the Worldwide Moravian Church celebrates 550 years of witness and 275 years of missions (in the Caribbean).
Sis. Cicely accepted God’s call at a time when women were just beginning to receive the recognition they had always deserved in the church. As a tribute to her character, through the struggle and the turmoil, she did not look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still. Consequently she has given ardent, faithful, dedicated service to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her passion for ministry has been evident over these years and she has sought to do her utmost best for the Kingdom of God.
Over these years God has allowed Sis Cicely to serve as Pastor in Antigua, Tobago, Barbados and Trinidad where she also served as Superintendent. She must also be recognized as one of the pioneers of the Provincial Youth Camp. She has represented the Province at many conferences and seminars and has been involved in several Unity undertakings. Along with her husband Bro. Keith Horsford, Sis Cicely has served diligently and purposefully and has made many sacrifices for the Church.
At least three other colleagues are celebrating 25 years of ordained ministry along with Sis. Cicely. It is therefore with our greatest appreciation that the Moravian Church in the Eastern West Indies joins in this celebration.
On behalf of the entire Provincial family and the PEC we offer heartiest congratulations to the Rev. Dr. Cicely T.V. Athill-Horsford on the occasion of the Silver Anniversary of her Ordination to the Word and Sacraments.
May the God of all grace continue to give her wisdom and strength as the psalmist says “The Lord is the Strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one” (Psalm 28:8). God’s richest Blessings to all.
In Christ’s Service
Dr. Dion Christopher
