As was done last year, for the month of August, each week our FF will be drawn from earlier submissions. This month will draw upon FF articles dating back to 2009. For those who don’t know, the weekly FF was birthed as we were planning for a youth and young adult convention called Take it Back (TIB) which was held in Trinidad in 2006. Each Friday participants were invited to join together to focus on the approaching event. The FF has been going since then and for that we say thanks be to God!
(In light of the track and field events beginning today at the 2012 Summer Olympics, I share with you this article which was originally submitted on January 9, 2009.)
If you hear the name Usain Bolt you immediately think of last summer Olympics. One man caught the world’s attention all because of how fast he ran. After years of training, when he got to the finals, there was only one thing to do JUST RUN. That’s our FF for today: JUST RUN!
What is suggested in today’s FF is a call to follow your instinctive action. It does not mean that you RUN without purpose mindlessly. Rather it is calling for us to realize that there are moments in our lives when the urgency of what’s before means that there’s no time to pause and examine…JUST RUN. There’s no time to weigh the pros and cons…JUST RUN. There’s no time for a debate….JUST RUN. There’s no time for wondering what if….JUST RUN.
You’ve done the examining; you’ve weighed the pros and cons; you’ve made the projections; you’ve done the evaluating and reflecting; you’ve received the counseling and advise; you’ve entertained the doubts and asked the same question a million times. Now it’s time to JUST RUN. You’re under starter’s order. The pistol is waiting to be sounded and all you have to do is JUST RUN. It’s not the time to think twice. No! It’s time to JUST RUN!
JUST RUN away from temptation when it’s wooing you.
JUST RUN to the Bible DAILY to let God speak His Word into your life.
JUST RUN away from those who will lead you off the straight and narrow path.
JUST RUN into the world with the best news there is: Jesus Saves!
JUST RUN to be reconciled to those with whom your relationship has been broken.
JUST RUN to offer and receive forgiveness to those you’ve hurt and who’s hurt you.
JUST RUN to hear the Word of God being preached and be encouraged.
JUST RUN away from the devil – the deceiver and enemy of our souls.
JUST RUN to God with all of your troubles and cares – He’s waiting for you.
I’ll confess that in this Christian race, there are times when we all get weary of the RUN. At such time in the RUN, hear again this promise from God: God gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will RUN and not grown weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40 29 -31
Till next Friday, as your fellow runner in the race, I cheer you on with these words JUST RUN!
