Recently I was driving behind a car and I couldn’t help but think that the driver must have been drunk. Why? The car was swerving all over the road from left to right. As vehicles approached he would immediately pull back over to his side. I then realized that it was a young male driver. His windows were down and the car stereo blasting at full volume! And then I noticed that the car was so low to the ground you would have thought that it was riding on air. That led me to conclude that he was not drunk but was swerving to and fro because he was trying to AVOID the many bumps and pot holes that were in this stretch of road. There was some success but then again there were places when he had no choice but to go through the rough spots. I was thankful that he was wise enough to realize that it was more important to AVOID colliding with other oncoming drivers than trying to AVOID having a rough ride in his very low car. With that in mind our FF for today is AVOIDING THE UNAVOIDABLES!
Life is filled with so many UNAVOIDABLES! These are the things that are inevitable and inescapable. They can be looked as being very obvious. Can we name a few UNAVOIDABLES? Getting old! Paying taxes (see what happens when you try to AVOID that)! Sickness! Failure! Pain! Dying! We tend to do all in our power to AVOID THE UNAVOIDABLES. It’s as if we dread them. We’ve seen what they’ve done to others and it’s not a pretty sight. And there is something within us that keeps hoping that some of these UNAVOIDABLES will somehow miraculously by pass us. THE UNAVOIDABLES tend not bring any sense of joy or laughter. They’re not usually considered positive. Yet fate seems to be working against us in that often times no matter how hard we try to AVOID THE UNAVOIDABLES they do come a-knocking. And like the driver, no matter how much we try swerving to and fro, yet we still encounter THE UNAVOIDABLES.
It is folly then to try and AVOID THE UNAVOIDABLES. It’s like trying to run away from God. Where exactly can you go? But when there is a change of attitude that sees the UNAVOIDABLES not as some things to AVOID but as some things to accept it’s amazing how different life becomes. Even though the UNAVOIDABLES are usually seen as not being desirous, it is in the accepting, not the AVOIDING of the UNAVOIDABLES that our lives are enriched. Now that is strange! But that is how God’s economy operates. So when we try to AVOID THE UNAVOIDABLE of sickness, we miss out on the blessing that comes from experiencing God to be a healer. When we try to AVOID THE UNAVOIDABLE of failure we don’t have that great an appreciation for success. When we do all in our power to AVOID THE UNAVOIDABLE of death, we fail to grasp the power of the promise of the resurrection that belongs to those who die in Christ.
So today, even if you’re swerving crazily doing all you can to AVOID THE UNAVOIDABLES of life, stop wasting your energy. Yes, the road of life is rough and has lots of bumps along the way. But if you know Christ as Saviour and Lord, rest assured that the vehicle in which you’re driving has some ‘faith’ suspensions. So accept THE UNAVOIDABLES instead of trying to AVOID them. Always there are other drivers looking to see how your ‘faith’ suspension vehicle is handling the road. Let them see that God has a way of pouring out blessings especially through THE UNAVOIDABLES which come in our lives.
